Bentolicious #194
I just need to make one bento for my girl today. One of Little A's classmates will have a birthday party during lunch time. So lunch will be provided for the whole class. I made one happy girl holding a green balloon. I thought I still had some cherry tomatoes in the fridge, but they were finished already. No time to change the theme so I just took calamansi (jeruk kunci in Indonesia) from my backyard. Ok, I know it looks weird. Even my daughter said that was a big fan and not a balloon. I made daikon soup with beef stock that I put in a thermal box to keep it warm. And cooked beef shank with spices (turmeric, ginger, lemon grass, garlic, and chili). I only used 2 red big chili so the beef would not be too spicy for my girl. Recipe will be coming up soon on My Bloglicious.

somehow i like the idea of using Calamansi instead on cherry tomato.. looks as if she is holding a giant lollipop. cute.

Those sure looks like yummy beef rendang to me.. quick quick post up the receipe..thanks..hehe

Cute little Girl, just like Miss A. :)

I really admire your cutting until now.

The beef shank with spices, is that similar to Rendang? Looks very yummy!

What a sweet bento!
It looks like a wind mill to me! :P

@Bobo : Thanks a lot Florence to 'save' me from my balloon disaster hehehe ... Will post up the recipe soon. You can take a peek later on My Bloglicious (^.^)

@mama elaine : Thanks a lot Yuli! Take a look at the red dress then you will change your mind about my cutting skills LOL :D

@Cooking Gallery : Thanks a lot CG! It totally tastes different from the usual rendang. I will share the recipe soon :)

@Angeleyes : Thanks a lot Alice! You give me an idea to make a wind mill bento for tomorrow, yeay!!

You really have great cutting skills and able to cut out almost anything! Sometimes it's not a bad thing that you realized you don't have the ingredients you need at the very last min... at least you get to find new interesting, nice creations. :D

I think it's awesome! I love the balloon :) The other thing that struck me is that the little girl's hair is 3D! Too cool!

@ღᏓуռ էяɨռɨאღ : Thanks a lot Lyn for your sweet comment!

@OhayoBento : Thanks a lot Heather! 3D hair is easy and fun to make ;)

That is so adorable! I think I prefer this to a red tomato balloon. I too admire your cutting and bento skills Lia!

lia, what does calamansi taste like? looks like a small lime maybe?

i like how it looks for the balloon shape, plus the green is so bright and happy, and picks up the color of the lettuce and cucumber. love your balloon girl's cute collar and bow, too :-)

The girl is so cute!!!
You have calamansi tree at your back yard?? owh how cool is that!!! and is that soto Bandung you made?? yumm yumm my favorite!!!

@ChantaleP : Thanks a lot Chantale! Green balloon then hehehe :D

@megan : Thanks a lot Megan! My family use a lot calamansi for refreshing juice with ice and to make sambal. It tastes very sour, fresh, juicy. And it smells so citrusy fragrance :)

@Just a MOM : Thanks a lot Lina! I've got 2 trees at the backyard. My husband planted it. I should make soto Bandung next time. I know soto Bandung use daikon too right? This one only simple daikon with beef stock soup :)

Creative and delicious, you have a bento style and talent like no other, Lia! I love how you've styled the calamansi into a buoyant balloon!

Ah, what a happy little girl! I missed seeing all the cute bento you make...it's fun to be back to see what I've missed. :)

A calamansi balloon? Looks like a lime? Friends have a lime orchard and use them for margaritas :D
So cute and fun! Love your happy girl!

@Bentobird : Thanks a lot Jenn! So sweet of you to say that :)

@sheri fujihara chen : Thanks a lot Sheri! Calamansi is my favorite since I was a kid. It is very sour but smells so nice. Very refreshing to make a cold drink for hot day here :)
